Nightlife United

Nightlife United (NU) is a resource and advocacy non-profit coalition, founded by and existing for Nightlife professionals and  stakeholders.

The organization’s mission is to foster safety, diversity, and sustainability in our industry’s ecosystem of underrepresented cultural workers, while working towards a prosperous & equitable Nightlife culture.

CORE VALUES

  • Nightlife United strives to nurture local communities that reflect the diversity, inclusivity, and vibrancy of performing arts and celebration culture - across operations and patronage: attendees, performers, professionals and other stakeholders.

  • A diverse Nightlife industry provides access to people from across all social, ethnic, racial, generational, and disability backgrounds, as well as gender and sexual orientations.

  • An inclusive Nightlife industry supports under-served communities by bolstering professional development for workers and spaces for attendees.

  • A vibrant Nightlife industry celebrates and spotlights diversity of people and culture - showcasing and uplifting unique and regionally and/or culturally specific forms of music, performance art, and celebration culture.

  • Nightlife fosters cultural progress making it integral for a thriving society.

  • Nightlife needs to be respected as an artistic medium that drives socioeconomic growth.

  • Safe spaces are those which include everyone and center those from under-served communities

  • Independently-owned venues provide a livelihood for the artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs that make up society’s creative class.

  • Local business leaders from underrepresented populations face unique challenges around financing, support, and access to resources and they must be prioritized.

  • Organizations need to focus on equitable and ethical labor practices that foster the talents of artists and cultural workers in order to keep music culture healthy.

Nightlife has a long and rich history in our city, particularly for queer and trans folks of color. We have very few advocates in our industry, so organizations like NYC Nightlife United feel like the kind of support that can protect and uplift us.

The work that NYC nightlife is doing, not only to support us, but to support the importance of nightlife itself is tremendous. I’m grateful for the work they are doing. I’m grateful for their support of BIPOC LGBTQIA communities. I feel seen and human again.
